GMC (General Motors Corporation) is a commercial vehicle brand founded by William Durant in 1908, headquartered in Detroit, USA. Originally known as “Rapid Motor Vehicle Company”, it merged with “Reliance Motor Car Company” after being acquired by General Motors in 1909, forming General Motors Truck Company (GMC). GMC has a strong reputation for producing trucks for the military and later became well-known for its pickup trucks in the US and Europe. Over the past century, GMC’s vehicle lineup has expanded to include SUVs, pickup trucks, commercial trucks, light-duty trucks, and medium-duty trucks, covering various niche markets.
The GMC logo consists of letters “GMC”, representing General Motors Corporation. The red font is stylish and the letters are outlined with a metallic feel, giving it a bold and imposing appearance. Despite its simplicity, the logo exudes a sense of elegant and distinguishing.
GMC’s lineup includes models such as GMC Yukon, Hummer EV SUV, Hummer EV, Canyon, Terrain, Acadia, TopKick, Granite, Graphyte, Envoy, Jimmy, Denali XT, Sierra, Savana, and Yukon Denali among others. The Sierra is GMC’s full-size pickup truck, equivalent to Chevrolet’s Silverado; while the Canyon is a mid-size pickup truck, comparable to Chevrolet’s Colorado.

This platform also features a new VIP intelligent electronic architecture with vehicle-level OTA updates, high-speed network data transfer capability, aerospace-grade network security, and limitless sustainable expansion potential. Additionally, it incorporates a wireless battery management system (wBMS), reducing 90% of wiring harnesses, increasing energy density, enhancing battery safety, and lowering failure rates. The Hummer EV is one of the vehicle models based on this platform.
GMC, synonymous with high-end trucks and custom SUVs, has established a dominant position in the industry over its more than century-long history. William Durant, the brand’s founder, was a commercial genius who gained significant fame after establishing General Motors. Through strategic acquisitions of smaller companies in the industry, Durant steadily grew the company. The official birth of GMC occurred in 1911 when General Motors merged with Rapid Motor Vehicle Company. Initially focused on producing trucks, GMC made its brand debut at the 1912 New York International Auto Show, a moment of great significance. Despite economic downturns caused by World War I, GMC ventured into new markets such as urban and transit buses. However, this endeavor was short-lived and eventually abandoned. During World War II, GMC experienced another resurgence, becoming a supplier to the military, manufacturing trucks, fire engines, ambulances, and heavy-duty vehicles. These experiences earned GMC a respectable reputation. In 1960, GMC began producing trucks for general consumers and introduced the first full-size personal-use pickup truck, the Sierra. Known for embodying American automotive values of luxury, spaciousness, comfort, and power, GMC vehicles have consistently been beloved for their quality and incorporation of new technologies.
